A Tribute to Marge Gieser

Soli Deo Gloria has lost a dear friend and advocate and fellow lover of sacred music. Marjorie Ruth Gieser, wife of Board member and former Chairman Richard G. Geiser, M.D., mother of Advisory Board member Stephen C. Gieser, M.D., was a very special person in the life of SDG. We especially honor her legacy as a liturgical artist, who has left her touch around the world in the form of banners, murals and sculptures.

"St. Matthew Passion" to join DVD series

St. Denis Basilica

St. Denis Basilica

The next installation in The Soli Deo Gloria Collection, SDG's video series of sacred music masterworks, will spotlight J. S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, BWV 244. For this project, SDG once again joined with leading production companies Ideale Audience and Medici.tv. The majestic environs of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Denis, the renowned abbey church on the outskirts of Paris dating back to the 7th century, are the backdrop for the performance and filming on July 5, 2011, conducted by SDG’s Artistic Director, John Nelson.

Does Sacred Music Matter to You?

A Word from Chandler Branch,
President and CEO

If you’ve followed SDG online or read any of our emails or newsletters, you know that we are passionate about sacred music. What I’d really like to know is, what does sacred music mean to you.

Share your story.

We recently posted a survey on Facebook asking, “What’s your favorite piece of sacred music?” You might be interested to learn that Bach’s St. Matthew Passion topped the list, with Handel’s Messiah a close second. And there was hardly any mention of music written by Beethoven! So how about you? Is there a particular piece of sacred music that has played a significant role in your life at any point?

Live Broadcast of Bach's St. Matthew Passion

St. Denis Basilica

When John Nelson takes the podium at the beautiful St. Denis Basilica on July 5, 2011, all the pieces will be in place for a remarkable performance of Bach's "Great Passion," the St. Matthew, to be filmed for DVD and broadcast worldwide. This performance of the St. Matthew Passion is the concluding concert of the month-long St. Denis Festival, an annual classical music event that brings in first-class musicians from around the world for a month of exceptional programs.
