James MacMillan’s new hour-long setting of the St Luke Passion has been many years in the making. Soli Deo Gloria is a co-sponsor of the commission, along with the Concertgebouw / Zaterday Matinee series, Duke University, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the Britten Sinfonia. The completion of this work brings MacMillan one step closer to fulfilling his lifetime goal of setting all four of the Gospel Passion accounts to music.

Pulitzer-prize winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis has completed an a cappella choral work commissioned by Soli Deo Gloria for the Psalms Project, a collection of 15 contemporary musical works in the Western art-music tradition. The world premiere of Glorious Majesty, based on Psalm 104, will be performed by VocalEssence, conducted by Philip Brunelle, on October 27, 2013, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

On Sunday January 19, 2014, the a cappella choir Cor Cantiamo will present a sacred concert at College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, that features two choral works from the Soli Deo Gloria Psalms Project.

Soli Deo Gloria is pleased to announce the world premiere of Psalm 111 by James Lee. Written for mixed chorus and orchestra, the work is part of SDG’s ongoing Psalms Project and will be premiered by the Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra at the Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 19, 2013.
